Right-winger laments the existence of right-wingers and other corrupt people

In this scene from a classic 1968 film, Charlton Heston describes what he became later in life as he adopted increasingly right-wing "values." People driven by greed, avarice and religious dogma are exactly what would compel someone to travel the Universe in search of something better. Heston was also in a 1973 film that showcased the madness of overpopulation, a phenomenon actively promoted by "pro-life" groups, eg www.pop.org. The unsustainable growth of human numbers (about 80 MILLION annually) combined with default tunnel-vision, makes you wonder if anything will really get better. Look at all the wars fought over money, oil and petty ideological beliefs vs. opposing values of cooperation, respect for nature and sustainable living, which shallow, greedy people can't stand. They don't care that "I got mine" isn't working on this overcrowded planet. Where is the evidence that people as a whole are "basically good?" Most just go along to get along. Average people usually sa! y "what else can you do?" and pass the buck. The relatively small percentage who see the larger picture may never constrain the hordes who trash the planet for money and declare themselves the sole reason for Earth's existence.
